LICHIDE is a Non-Government Organization established in 1998 and first registered in Tanzania under the Law of Board of Trustees Incorporation Ordinance of 1956 cap 375 in 1999.
It was given the certificate of compliance in 2007 under Non-Government Act No. 24 of 2002 with registration number 1787. The head office is in Sumbawanga town which is in South West corner of Tanzania about 1200 km from Dar Es Salaam. Its area of operation is Tanzania mainland.
LICHIDE has been working closely with communities in Rukwa region which includes three districts; Sumbawanga, Nkasi and Kalambo to develop the local area in eco-friendly way that benefits the community. Since it started, it has been working in a range of projects with community members in direct response to social, educational, economic, environment and health needs.
The organization has been working in collaboration with other instituons/donors in various projects which includes
1. HIV and AIDS prevention and support of Most Vulnerable Children (MVCs) through the support of GTZ/RFA Tanzania (2007).
2. Human rights and prevention of women and child abuse supported by the Foundation for civil Society (2017-2022).
3. HIV and AIDS – Institutional Strengthening supported by Geita Goldmine (2007)
4. Community Participatory Identification supporting in Sumbawanga district by Foundation for Civil Society (2007 and 2010-2012)
5. HIV prevention and Home Based Care at Sumbawanga District Council and Sumbawanga Municipal Council supported by HJFMRI/Walter Reed Program and strengthening the rights to life for people with HIV/AIDS (2007-2014)
6. Pamoja Tuwalee Program aimed at enhancing the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS empowers Village MVC Committees to support MVCs using their available resources in Sumbawanga DC and Kalambo DC. This program was supported by Pact Tanzania (2012- 2016)
7. Kizazi Kipya Program aimed at protecting the rights to life for PLWHIV enable Tanzania Orphaned Vulnerable Children (OVCs) adolescents from HIV to utilize age-appropriate HIV and AIDS related services in Sumbawanga District Council supported by pact Tanzania 2017-2021
